SCORING FOR HOLLYWOOD – with Emmy Nominee Rupert Gregson-Williams (Wonder Woman) 

Join us for a unique insight into the world of composing for Hollywood with the Emmy nominated Rupert Gregson-Williams.

A disciple of Hans Zimmer, Rupert belongs to Hans’ now legendary Remote Control Productions Studios in LA and has produced scores for numerous big budget features including the 2017 box office smash Wonder Woman, Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge and The Legend of Tarzan.

Rupert’s music making pedigree speaks for itself and in the Summer of 2017 he was nominated for his second Emmy for his work on the hit Netflix series The Crown. Whilst held in high regard for his more recent work drama work, Rupert is also good friends with Adam Sandler and has been a near constant collaborator on the comedy stars films since the 2006 outing Click.

This masterclass will include an audience Q&A and is a must for any aspiring composer, musician or creative individual keen to gain valuable insight into the life of an elite craftsperson working at the top of the modern day movie and TV industry.

SCORING AWARD WINNING TV – With BAFTA nominated Composer Kevin Sargent

Join us for a fascinating insight into the composing process of BAFTA nominated Film and TV composer Kevin Sargent.

Kevin has been active in the industry for over twenty years writing hit scores for acclaimed series and picking up numerous awards for his work. In 2012, Kevin landed a BAFTA nomination for his powerful scoring of the Dominic West helmed TV series The Hour on ITV and had previously received Ivor Novello recognition for William Boyd’s A Waste of Shame.

THE MAGIC OF FOLEY – With Barnaby Smyth (Kingsman, Resident Evil)

Join us for the ‘Magic of Foley’, a fascinating and unique insight into the world of post production sound effect recording with Barnaby Smyth of the Feet First Sound studio.

With extensive industry experience working alongside some of the biggest directors in film and TV today, Barnaby has built an impressive CV providing foley and post sound supervision on numerous big budget productions including Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows, Attack the Block, Resident Evil and the Kingsman franchise as well as TV serials such as Downton Abbey, Tin Star and This is England.

In this exclusive masterclass, Barnaby will walk the audience through a live foley session and demonstrate the various instruments and methods he has used to generate the iconic sound effects and noises we have come to take for granted as movie goers over the years.

Join us for an entry level insight into the world of scoring music for film and TV with ITV and BBC composer Nina Humphreys.

Nina has worked on numerous TV shows and films over the years including ‘Sword of Honour’ starring Daniel Craig, ITV’s award winning ‘In Plain Sight’ with Martin Compston and Sky Atlantic’s period drama ‘Hunderby’.

Her two hour seminar will cover broadly all aspects of composing including writing and recording cues to picture as well as the skills needed to set up as a successful freelance composer within the industry today.

Join us for ‘An Intro to Sound Design’, an entry level insight into the world of post production sound for film, TV and video games with Bournemouth University’s Steve Rafter.

With a career that has seen him work on numerous TV shows and commercials over several decades, Steve now leads the Post Production Sound Framework at Bournemouth University and runs the Bournemouth based boutique post sound studio Bomo Audio.

His two hour seminar will cover broadly all aspects of creating, mixing and editing sound for the screen sector and provide a working demo of an industry standard live pro tools session, used by current working professionals today.

‘THE DIRECTOR/COMPOSER RELATIONSHIP’ with Christopher Smith and Toydrum

Join us for an exclusive conversation with the award winning Director Composer team behind the 2017 theatrical release Detour starring Ty Sherdidan.

Acclaimed Director Christopher Smith (Creep, Severence, The Triangle) and composers James Griffith and Pablo Clements of Toydrum (Formerly of Unkle) will discuss what makes for an effective creative working relationship when developing a film score and chew the fat on the general nature of successful artistic collaboration.

In a career spanning several decades Christopher has helmed a number of cult hits and came to fame with the now classic 2004 London Underground set chiller, Creep.

Since leaving the world renowned Unkle project in 2015, Toydrum have gone on to establish themselves as groundbreaking composers in their own right, producing the scores for Alice Lowe’s hit thriller Prevenge, London Fields starring Billy Bob Thornton and Shane Meadows award winning This Is England series. Toydrum have also collaborated with the likes of music legends Nick Cave, Warren Ellis and Gavin Clark through their Brighton based Toydrum studios.

‘LITTERBUGS CHARACTER CREATION’ with Treehouse Digital

Join us for the ‘Litterbugs Character Creation’ workshop and let award winning Bournemouth Based production company Treehouse Digital take you behind the scenes of their hit Creative England backed short film ‘Litterbugs’.

In this insightful workshop, Director Peter Stanley Ward and Sound Designer Glen Yard will walk you through the film’s unique practical special effects and give you the chance to build and voice your own ‘Litterbug’.

This workshop will provide a glimpse into the innovative methods employed by skilled independent filmmakers to achieve award winning short film success whilst working within a low budget environment.

Treehouse Digital is a production company specialising in high concept family entertainment. Founded by childhood friends Peter Stanley-Ward and Chris Musselwhite, the company has established a ‘Story Laboratory’ nurturing original ideas through each stage of production via a dedicated writer’s room, VFX studio, editorial and sound facilities in Bournemouth.

This gala event will take place immediately after the festival closing ceremony at Pavilion Dance Bournemouth, a short walk through Bournemouth Gardens and will feature a DJ set by acclaimed artist and film composer Glen Nicholls of Future Funk Squad.
